Anna of the North’s “Bird Sing” Shows Comfort in Vulnerability

Wendy Rosales

Anna of the North is the solo project of an Oslo-based Norwegian singer-songwriter, Anna Lotterud. The artist delivers a third single titled “Bird Sing” following previous releases, “Dandelion” and “Meteorite” featuring Gus Dapperton.

At the beginning of the track, a sweet guitar sets the mood for a comfortable but emotional vibe. The listener is being led to feel reminiscing about what once was to be stress-free. Anna comes back later in the track to assure that all will get better by contradicting her previous statements by giving the listener words of reassurance. The lyrics read, “you do whatever you want, babe. You should be exactly the way that you want, Babe. They don't know you, the way that I do."

“Bird Song” describes the sensation of waking up and having your anxieties remind you that all is not well. Anna states, ““Bird Sing” is inspired by those few seconds when you wake up from your sleep, everything feels good until you remember that it’s not.” The official visualizer for the track shows the singer tossing and turning in her bed, revealing the weight of effort it takes to face another day.

Anna’s goal for this upcoming project is to lead you through the journey of her building a home of her own and inviting fans for a visit. “Bird Song” will likely appear on Anna of the North's highly anticipated third album. We’re hopeful to see more of the artist’s vulnerable tracks in the upcoming year.
