Allison Ponthier Is More Than Just Your “Character Development”

“Character Development” is the musical return of American indie folk singer and songwriter, Allison Ponthier. Following her most recent EP, Shaking Hands with Elvis, Ponthier’s release is upbeat and deeply honest, showcasing the experience of mistreatment justified as a learning experience.

“Character Development” shares a story many listeners can identify with, being used by someone to benefit their image despite being in the wrong. Repetition of the chorus, “I'm more than just your character development. An element of making you wise,” proves the musician's genuine narrative. With a quick pace and dreamy mythical style, the single is sure to be the empowering song of the season.

Alongside the release of the single was the official music video, directed by Ponthier and Maris Jones. The video showcases Ponthier taking on the character of a romance author struggling to begin her next novel, following a series of story plots and finding herself at a dead-end with each new attempt. Once reimagining the protagonist of the story, and stepping away from the person using the lead to their advantage, the video ends with a happy ending.

As a rising artist, Ponthier has received acclaim for both her songwriting and star potential across platforms such as Billboard and The Rolling Stone. In this upcoming year, the artist is set to perform at The Inbetween Days Festival in Quincy, MA August 19th and 20th. We’re eager to tune into more releases and themes from Allison Ponthier given the prosperous return of “Character Development”.
