Feel the Joy of ‘People In Motion’ by Dayglow

Sam Plascencia and Jenny Sorto

Sloan Struble, commonly known as Dayglow, has crafted yet another record that brings listeners to a delightful, hyper-melodic sunshine state. People In Motion has been teased for the last couple of months with single releases including, “Then It All Goes Away,” “Second Nature,” and “Deep End.” At just 23 years old, Struble succeeds in shaping 10 songs that are clearly conceptualized, written, and produced by himself. There is no question that Dayglow offers special tracks about “finding something you love and singing about it out loud,” especially in People In Motion.

We spotlight specific tracks off People In Motion and delve deep into Sloan Struble’s beloved style below!

A bold choice for an opening track, “Second Nature” is close to six minutes long and shows a more experimental side to Struble’s production. Released as the second single from the album, the artist finds confidence in his feelings and certainty in love. The song truly keeps us enthralled from start to finish.

In tune with the record’s name, Struble notes people in motion and the pleasure of listening to the stereo. The second track, “Radio” offers a lighthearted song that reflects on the everchanging and spinning world around us. Seemingly out of our control, the theme revolves around the comfort that music brings in these transitional moments.

“Stops Making Sense” is a moment on the album that diverts from the themes of the earlier tracks. The repetitive chorus of “That feeling you get when it stops making sense. Yet it's right” reminds us that there can be comfort found when we leave behind our preconceived notions. In typical Dayglow fashion—upbeat guitars and funky synths guide us through the track. The addition of car and crowd sounds in the breakdown is added for eccentricity.

Highlighting the shift between the true feelings towards a person, the track “How Do You Know?” is a groovy, intuitive-filled song. The first beat starts with the amusing sound of a cowbell followed by energetic synths, drawing listeners in. This song is a joyous journey through Struble’s mind with one question in mind, “Like how do you know me? Know me at all?”

Love is a theme at the core of People In Motion, inspired by Struble’s life and journey of finding the one. “Like She Does” is everything you love about an 80s pop song but with a Dayglow flair. Struble sings about a love that is true and real where they know you better than anyone else. The lyric “There's nothing else that I'd rather be than in love with you” is a tender sentiment that captures the essence of Struble’s relationship.

Struble makes a true impression on his third studio album. People In Motion is full of feel-good tracks about self-growth, love, and optimism yet still carries a depth that we can relate to. Struble has found his undeniable sound while continuing to flourish as an artist. You won’t want to miss Dayglow on the People In Motion tour, performing many of these songs live for the first time ever.
