Travel Into Carwash’s World With “Globe”

Sam Plascencia & Wendy Rosales

carwash returns with his first single since the well-loved EP soap water. The new track titled “globe” is a nostalgic-rock release paired with a music video including an array of intimate moments with friends.

The track was a collaborative project with Garrett Seamans and his close friend, Lucian Rice aka supidrichkid, who visited America from New Zealand after being internet buddies since 2018. The visit took a turn when Rice began to play some guitar chords, which led them to an almost complete track.

This was a new approach for Seamans, “Normally, I would call that a day, but Lucian was persistent and I wrote the words right then. I rarely ever complete songs in that fashion, but that night, we wrote the whole song from start to finish.”

The saga doesn’t end there, months later when Rice returned back home to New Zealand the two friends continued to finalize the final cut for the song. The track coincidentally was named “globe” which Seamans says “only made more sense as we sent back and forth versions of the song from Los Angeles to New Zealand and back.”

The meaning behind “globe” is all about having the time of your life surrounded by your friends, which is encapsulated in the music video. Seamans mentions it made the most sense to shoot an entire video himself by capturing his authentic friend groups and their close-knit bonds.

The track and video feel like an early 00’s coming-of-age movie, impressively capturing nostalgia. As long-term fans of carwash, it’s admirable witnessing the artist’s musical direction as well as his everlasting creativity with his projects.
