The sixteen year old artist, Kali Flanagan or KALI, instantly caught our attention with her catchy debut track “Back to the Start”. We found this song out of the blue back when we curated our playlist lately, and it's been on repeat ever since. KALI’s rise as a new and upcoming artist excites us and we’re eager to listen to more of her love-struck tracks coming soon on her debut EP CIRCLES on May 7th.

Lucky enough, KALI just dropped her second single titled “Lucy”. The artist tells a story about a girl named Lucy with an aloof personality and heartfelt secret throughout the song. Kali sings how she wishes that Lucy would just talk to her. We come to learn how only after a couple of drinks is when she’ll let more of her feelings show. From beginning to end, the song is paired with upbeat instrumentals and Kali’s soft voice creating a perfect indie-pop track. It’s one of those songs that makes you just want to drive with the windows down or softly play at a picnic with your best friend. 

This dreamy track was admirably captured in the music video starring Kali herself and Trixie Begler as Lucy. The video follows the day in the life of a girl we know as Lucy and Kali’s admiration for her. The sweet theme in the video compliments the song effortlessly as we are shown the growing relationship of these two girls. From walking in the park and strolling through suburbia, we’re given a glimpse into the girl of Kali’s dreams, or Lucy. At the same time, this visual representation reveals a deeper side to young love that isn’t so charming. The unfortunate truth is that love cannot always be reciprocated as much as someone desires. 

We love the fresh and sincere vibes of KALI’s music and we’ve already got “Lucy” stuck in our heads.
