Nobody Gets Us Like Wallows

Sam Plascencia

The indie-alternative band, Wallows, composed of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston are back with their Remote (Deluxe) EP. What began as a project over quarantine in 2020 has now blossomed into a second launch with additional tracks in 2021. The deluxe EP features new songs, “Quarterback”, “On Time”, “Another Story”, and our favorite, “OK” with Remi Wolf and Solomonophonic.

What excites us the most about Wallows is their everlasting commitment to create music that fans will undoubtedly dance, reminisce, and cry to. The tracks on the Remote (Deluxe) EP do just that. The first two songs of the deluxe, “On Time'' and “Quarterback”, feature lead vocals from Cole Preston, who is usually found killing the drums. This unfamiliar yet warming voice was unexpected and highly appreciated for this deluxe version. The captivating chorus, “I'm alone wishin' for your call, startin' to freak'' is already stuck in our heads. The simple, upbeat melodies behind Preston’s voice highlight his talent in the most perfect ways. These tracks blend seamlessly together as Wallows is admirably known for.

To top it off, Braeden Lemasters leads the song, “Another Story” with authenticity. What resembles much of their past work found on Nothing Happens, this track exhibits the raw emotions involving a past relationship. Lemasters slowly sings, “I know I used the word ‘forever’, I promise I think we'll be better” to introduce the idea of recovering and getting back together. A change of heart is presented as the song comes to an end, “We know that every ending opens a door to a new bеginning” which clearly represents how Lemasters has accepted the change and is ready to move on. The short track plays with our emotions in such a comforting approach. The next song, “OK” starring Remi Wolf and Solomonophonic jumps right back into Wallows’ spirited nature that absolutely leads to a whole change in our mood.

To celebrate the release of Remote (Deluxe) EP, Wallows dropped a music video for “Quarterback”. The strong bond the band members hold with one another is clearly represented with every clip. The boys reflect their personalities with the way they bounce off each other’s energies. Driving around in a Volvo while sporting a suit-tie combo and floppy bunny ear hats are part of the spontaneity we expect from the band’s music videos.

We’re a big fan of Wallows and their constant creative attitude towards their music. They continue to stun us with every release and we’re obsessed with it. We can always rely on Wallows to build relatable connections by soundtracking every season for their fans.
