Outside Lands 2021: Artists to Watch

Bad Wreck Team

Outside Lands Music Festival makes its return to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, with special dates this year. The festival normally held in August was rescheduled to October 29-31st, making for a once in a lifetime Halloweekend experience. The lineup this year is stacked with iconic artists and rising talent. If you’re attending we know you won’t want to miss headliners like Tame Impala, Lizzo, The Strokes and more. In addition to the big names there’s a long list of artists worth getting to the festival early for.

We’ve rounded up some performers we’re excited to check out and hope you swing by their sets!

Q

Friday - Panhandle - 4:35-5:15 PM

The 21-year-old R&B artist from South Florida has been surrounded and inspired by music his whole life due to his father also being in the music industry. He self produced his 2019 album Forest Green and then went on to release his third album The Shave Experiment (Director’s Cut) in 2021. Both albums explore the sonically pleasing elements of R&B.

Post Animal 

Saturday - Sutro - 12:40-1:25 PM

The alt-prog band from Chicago has various sonic influences, from psych-rock to electronic, fusing together to create their dynamic sound. Post Animal’s album Forward Motion Goddessy, finds the band pushing their boundaries to produce a maximalist and immersive project that invites introspection from audiences.

Hinds 

Saturday - Land’s End - 1:10-1:55 PM

Hinds hail from Madrid, having created a name for themselves with their energetic live performances and bold indie-rock sound. The band seamlessly goes back and forth singing in English and Spanish accompanied by catchy melodies and buzzing guitars.

Noga Erez 

Saturday - Sutro - 1:55-2:40 PM

Erez is an Israeli singer, songwriter, and producer. We’re excited to see her 2021 sophomore album KIDS performed live, showcasing her blend of hip-hop and electronic music. The record possesses a unique production style crafted by her and their life partner Ori Rousso. The album touches on personal and political topics surrounding her life.

Dijon 

Saturday - Twin Peaks - 2:15- 3:00 PM

The Los Angeles-based artist grew up in a small county outside of Baltimore, Maryland. Dijon’s self-made sounds provided a foundation for his experimental R&B, folk soul music. As an emerging artist, Dijon’s authenticity found in his tracks are brilliant. Dijon is currently working on his debut album following the release of singles “Many Times” and “Rodeo Clown.”

Dr. Dog

Saturday - Sutro - 4:30-5:20 PM

The Philadelphia-based American indie-rock band released a live recording album this year of their most popular songs. They're rekindling the fire of their music while releasing new music to their patient yet dedicated fan base. The folk inspired band is currently on tour for the last time showcasing a well rounded set list for a final farewell.

Angel Olsen

Saturday- Sutro - 5:50- 6:40 PM

The Chicago-based singer-songwriter with indie-rock and folk influences has reached the heartstrings of many listeners with her raw and intimate lyricism. With seven albums, two EPs, and a few collaborations under her belt it is easy to see how she has progressed and evolved as an artist. Her set will include songs from each of her works, including the recent EP release Aisles. Look out for her performance of the song “Like I Used To” with Sharon Van Etten.

Bakar

Saturday - Panhandle - 6:10-6:50 PM 

The 26-year-old London native experiments with an indie-rock style in most of his tracks. From once anonymously uploading music on Soundcloud back in 2015, Bakar has grown as an artist. In May 2018, he debuted his professional mixtape Badkid in May 2018 and subsequently released the extended play Will You Be My Yellow? in September 2019.

Claud

Sunday - Sutro - 12:40-1:25 PM 

Claud’s soft indie-pop music is full of sentimental lyricism. Their debut album Super Monster, is a compilation of the ups and downs of a relationship with relatable lovesick tracks that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head.

Caroline Polacheck 

Sunday - Twin Peaks - 2:10-2:55 PM

Polacheck’s 2019 album Pang has captivated pop fans with her angelic vocals and ethereal production. Her performances showcasing her unique sound and theatrics are the perfect complement to her wistful songwriting.

Goth Babe

Sunday - Sutro - 3:10-3:55 PM

Griff Washburn, better known as Goth Babe can be found in his 1996 Ford F-250 van with his pup and best friend, Sadie. Washburn’s tracks have a feel good, beach vibe. The off the grid artist writes about his life surfing up the coast of California to Oregon and magically captures the beauty of it all in his lyricism and tunes.

mxmtoon

Sunday - Sutro - 4:25-5:10 PM

The Oakland-raised, Brooklyn-based mxmtoon’s artistry ranges from ukulele playing to an incredible exploration of emotional songwriting. Also known as Maia, the artist shares a part of herself we’ve grown a fondness for. The pure dreamlike narratives Maia creates within her tracks are captivating.
