Stuck on FIG Like a “Splinter”

Sam Plascencia

The up-and-coming artist known as FIG stuns with a recent release, “Splinter.” Based in New York, the Malaysian indie pop and R&B artist touches on a wide array of emotions with heavy synth and vocals.

FIG reveals how “Splinter” is all about the grip of a bad relationship and its unfortunate force. The matter of escaping is in mind yet something is still holding one back. The track refers to the love game as “Sticking like a splinter in my tender heart.” Even when the desire for change is necessary for the relationship, FIG still admits she likes to stick around for her counterpart.

The artist pairs the release with a visualizer as a way of expressing her true emotions. Shown chanting the lyrics while scribbling ink on a box, the artist takes us through her process of feelings. From dancing in the kitchen, on the rooftop, and finally abandoning the box in the street, we witness the arduous series of events.

“Splinter” is the second single off FIG’s upcoming 8-track project, set to release on November 3rd. We’re thrilled to highlight this artist and eager to hear more from her in the upcoming months.
