HUNNY makes their highly anticipated return with their single “Sports With Strangers.” The SoCal indie-pop band is made up of Jason Yarger, Jake Goldstein, Kevin Grimmet and Joey Anderson. The group has gained a loyal following throughout the years with their three EP’s and full-length record, Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. 

During a time where many artists are getting inspiration from the isolation we’ve experienced during the pandemic, HUNNY took a different route to express this sentiment on “Sports With Strangers.” The self-produced track is a reflection of loneliness that isn’t caused by physical distance. The band explains, “we were reminded of the distance that comes from spending time in a crowd that couldn’t be further intellectually and emotionally from your perspective.” The lyrics “I feel like I've been here for ages, don't ask if I am listening 'cause I'm not at all,” depict the feelings of disinterest and detachment. 

The band released a music video along with the single that reflects the emotions of complete indifference to reality. Lead vocalist Jason Yarger is shown staring directly at the camera while a party scene continues to take place around him. The band ditches the party and instead drives around the neighborhood recklessly.

As HUNNY’s first release since 2019, “Sports With Strangers” is an energizing track we can relate to. There is a familiarity in the dancey guitar and upbeat melodies that make HUNNY songs so enjoyable. The band’s new single is a solid musical comeback that leaves us wanting more and makes us rethink if we really want to go to that party.
