The Lemon Twigs reignites their beloved sound with the long-awaited new album Everything Harmony. After three years, the D'Addario brothers, Michael and Bryan, encapsulate nostalgia and dreariness into a dream-like thirteen-track album. The four singles released prior set the tone with their familiar sound paired with growth in production and lyricism, making Everything Harmony the perfect come-back.

Releasing singles since January, the previous tracks successfully capture the essence of the album while amplifying the melodic nature of The Lemon Twigs. Each song serves as a teaser for the senior album released finally in May, with something to love in every song. 

The opening track, “When Winter Comes Around,” strikes the listener with a dreary yet beautiful tune about fleeting moments and forgetfulness. The poem-like song unfolds lyrics like, “Grief has consumed our eyes and filled our bed with lies.” The track washes over like sadness or hopelessness, resulting in a tinge of hope for beauty and rawness. 

Dark lyrics with cheery sounds continue to be a theme. The lyrics in “In My Head” give us a glimpse into the internal thoughts behind the D'Addario brothers, “In my mind, there is sadness all the time.” The reliability of feeling depressed and finding it difficult to share those feelings or open up makes this track a prime example of D'Addario's abilities, making sense as to why it became a single for this album. 

“Still It’s Not Enough” is about disdain and life moving forward with or without them participating despite all their efforts. Whether triumphs or relationships, it never seems enough to stay ahead to maintain their lives. Instead, life passes them by while they remain stagnant. Unlike other songs, the track’s sound matches the dread of their lyrics while remaining dreamy.

With pain being the core of Everything Harmony, one of the final songs on the album titled “Born To Be Lonely” goes hand in hand with The Lemon Twigs’ message. Again with a hyper-melodic tune, the D’Addario brothers know how to romanticize pain. 

Songs like “Ghost Run Free” act as a relief from the grieving and a catalyst to expand on the growth. Their well-established sound of upbeat instrumentals and layered harmonizing further cement the beloved sound we know and love.

“Everything Harmony” as a track is an example of this growth in production and lyricism. Adorned with more harmonizing and intricately balanced instrumentals, the song feels very hopeful and romantic for life, a complete turn-around from the previous tracks on the album. With a sense of overcoming and personal reflection, it is no wonder this track became the album title. 

Bryan and Michael D’Addario of The Lemon Twigs made a passionate return for their fourth studio album. With raw lyrics entailing love, pain, self-pity, and acceptance, The Lemon Twigs created a coming-of-age masterpiece that is sure to satisfy their returning listeners after three years. While the duo is concluding their North American tour, they are set to support The Killers and embark on a brief tour in Europe. With the return of The Lemon Twigs, the anticipation for another tour and music videos alongside the release of Everything Harmony grows.
