After making a name for themselves with their debut album Cinema, The Marías – led by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter María Zardoya – are back and better than ever.

Drawing from their funk and alt-pop background, Zardoya expresses that she’s learned to not run or hide from serious conversations in a relationship anymore. She isn’t going to let the other person talk over her as she channels her frustrations into a dreamy yet upbeat anthem.
On March 7, the band released a teaser for the song, leaving fans pleasantly surprised and excited for this new era of their sophomore LP Submarine.
This song captures what the band does best, which is combining a funky bassline with Zardoya’s whispery vocals. The lyrics express being fed up with a conversation with an overly critical and analytical significant other. There’s this large feeling of being burdened by your actions, knowing that there will be someone watching every one of them and criticizing them. As a result, this connects with the album and its title as it emphasizes the weight of the sea, with Zardoya as a personification of the submarine, and the other person portraying the overbearing sea.
