Thomas Headon Takes a New Perspective on “i loved a boy”

The transcendent indie-pop banger you’ve been looking for is here. Australian singer-songwriter, Thomas Headon, brings us his 2023 debut, “i loved a boy.” The emotional, honest track offers listeners a heartfelt piece of advice from the artist.

The subtleties of this track are what make it unforgettable. With just a simple drum beat, an acoustic guitar, and euphoric backing vocals, Headon creates a soothing and dreamy sound. The velvety electric guitar riff hidden in the chorus grounds the tune in the indie-pop genre. Lastly, the explosion of energy that effortlessly carries the listener to the fast bridge is the sweet cherry on top.

The track looks at a breakup between a girlfriend who gave a relationship everything she had and a boyfriend who runs away and hides behind excuses. “‘i loved a boy’ is the first song I’ve put out that isn’t from my perspective. Late last year, I caught up with a friend who was going through a breakup, and I found myself really struggling to give her any advice on how to deal with it,” said Headon about inspiration for the track.

After months of performing sold-out headline shows last year, Headon has been in the studio throughout 2023 working on his next project. The release will follow his latest BBC Radio playlisted single, “Georgia,” and his EP, Victoria, which charted highest UK EP of 2022 and features a song from the Netflix hit series Heartstopper.
