Along For The Ride With Wallice’s “Off The Rails”

Jenny Sorto

Rising artist, Wallice has released her debut EP, Off The Rails, following up the success of her breakout single “Punching Bag” and subsequent tracks “23” and “Hey Michael.” The project is a collection of indie coming of age songs that give a light-hearted yet brutally real perspective on life as a 20-something.

The title track, “Off The Rails” captures the aimlessness of youth. The lyrics, “I’m doing my best here, but that’s not good enough, I'll try harder next year,” show Wallice’s self-awareness.

“Hey Michael” featuring marinelli, is a portrait of the guy full of red flags trying hard to impress at a party. The track has an anecdotal vibe that makes us think of every “Michael” we’ve encountered on a night out. Wallice mixes humor into her lyrics creating stories we can laugh and relate to.

Wallice contemplates a relationship and her inability to trust on the song “Dramamine”. Singing, “Now I’ll bite my tongue and I’m scared that I’ll say something dumb I can’t take back”, she candidly lays out her self-doubt for all of us to hear.

The EP ends with the track “Headache” where Wallice sings about unreciprocated feelings. She expresses the awkwardness of being “just friends” with someone who wants more than a friendship.

Wallice captures the messiness of growing up in her songs with a blend of bedroom pop, lo-fi and indie rock sounds. The LA-based singer-songwriter makes a stunning debut with Off The Rails, creating music that we can identify with as we stumble through our youth.
