Paramore Embraces the Unknown on “C’est Comme Ça”

The trio rock band Paramore stuns everyone with a new single. Even though it may seem like just a fun song to dance to, listeners can piece together the deeper meaning that lead singer Hayley Williams unfolds.

The track has taken people by surprise with a completely new genre spin. In the release, Williams takes on the Talking Heads rock band style, with spoken lyrics over cool, percussive drums and guitar in the verses, “Sit still long enough to listen to yourself / Or maybe just long enough for you to atrophy for hell.”

The staccato-like rhythm is key in capturing the attention of listeners. The dance-punk song brings something new to the table and shows how much Paramore’s musical influence and versatility can stretch in one sole album.

Williams describes the release as, “Trying to get un-addicted to a survival narrative. The idea of imminent doom is less catastrophic to me than not knowing anything about the future or my part in it…”

Continuing with the theme of the title, Williams worries about what the future holds. She mentions that while the band is in a more stable place than ever, she still struggles in adjusting to this newfound steadiness. The narrative form of the song—from singing to speaking—shows the contrast between a life of survival versus one of stability.

This latest single follows the title track and “The News” from Paramore’s highly-anticipated upcoming album This Is Why set to be released on February 10th, along with their 2023 world tour kicking off in South America in March.
