Del Water Gap Goes Back To The Start On “All We Ever Do Is Talk”

“All We Ever Do is Talk” is the newest single from the burgeoning alt-pop artist Del Water Gap. The solo project from singer-songwriter S. Holden Jaffe has amassed success throughout the years, including a recent run on Maggie Rogers’ U.S. and Europe tours. The new track comes as the first glimpse into Jaffe’s upcoming album I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet out September 29.
“All We Ever Do Is Talk” speaks to the feelings that arise when a relationship is moving on from the enchantment of the beginning stages. Kicking off with a driving bassline, the song builds into a whirlwind of guitars and drums. The track’s captivating production mirrors the same thrills Jaffe reminisces on throughout the song.
The chorus questions if the relationship will ever rekindle the exhilaration and lust at the start, repeating the lyric, “Will we ever get that feeling again?”. Jaffe gives insight into the sentiment of the track, “it is a love letter to the melancholy and nostalgia nested within the realization that the feeling of the beginning won’t last forever.” There’s a clash between the stability of a committed relationship and the precariousness of a new connection.
There is plenty to anticipate on I Miss You Already + I Haven’t Left Yet, including Jaffe’s introspective songwriting, expressive melodies, and a collaboration with singer Arlo Parks. “All We Ever Do Is Talk” feels like Del Water Gap giving us a page of his diary – that we’ll get to explore deeper as more of the album is released.
