Palmer Delivers an Indie-Rock Hit With “Postman”

Devin Dunlap

Palmer Hubbell is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter known professionally as Palmer. His latest single “Postman,” which he wrote and produced himself, is a must-listen for indie-rock fans. Filled with beautiful guitar riffs and genuinely profound lyrics, Palmer could be this summer’s indie rock prince.

Palmer’s unique approach is proven in the track’s chorus featuring bass chords rather than bass lines. Its stop and go nature, where the instruments briefly cut out while Palmer sings, fueling the song with so much energy. To top it off are the beautiful electric guitar riffs and ending solo. It’s the perfect tune to scream at the top of your lungs on a hot summer night.

The singer-songwriter describes the toxicity of a one-sided relationship. He writes, “you treat me like a postman, say hello maybe once a week, you never send, just receive.” Hubbell describes a relationship where the other person uses you only when they need you.

“Postman” follows Palmer’s previous singles, “Picture Books” and last summer’s “People Fuel.” Hubbell has written and produced every song on his discography, including his debut EP, ok, COOL! The project was released in 2021 and has gained over two million Spotify streams.
