A Night at Zebulon with Charlie Hickey & Friends
Jenny Sorto
Charlie Hickey performed at Zebulon in Los Angeles on August 20th, supported by KALI and Whitmer Thomas. The sold out show was Hickey’s first live performance since being signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ label, Saddest Factory Records. His debut EP, Count The Stairs is a mix of acoustic indie-rock songs that highlight Hickey’s storytelling with sentimental lyrics. We were excited to see the singer songwriter perform his newly released tracks.
After performances by KALI and Whitmer Thomas the crowd was ready for Charlie Hickey. The band, made up of Hickey’s friends, made an iconic entrance to Charli XCX’s “Click”. Hickey then took his place on stage with guitar in hand. He opened the show with his 2020 single, “No Good At Lying”.
Friend and singer Al , sang backup for Whitmer Thomas earlier in the night and accompanied Hickey by lending their angelic vocals on a later track.
A lovely surprise during the show came when Hickey welcomed fellow artist Adam Melchor to share the stage for a sweet duet.
One of our favorite songs of the night was, “Seeing Things”. You could feel Hickey’s emotion radiating throughout the room. The crescendo of the show came when the audience went wild for the indie rock anthem “Ten Feet Tall”.
The intimate venue was the perfect setting for Hickey’s heartfelt and earnest music.
