In the Green Room with girlhouse
Jenny Sorto
Welcome to “In the Green Room” our column where we take you backstage with artists on tour, giving you an insight into life on the road.
Spending the summer on tour with The Wrecks, Nashville-based artist girlhouse caught up with us at the iconic venue Antone’s in Austin, TX. Lauren Luiz aka girlhouse lets us know about a few must-haves, memorable moments, and more on tour. Read the full interview below!
What's on your green room rider?
GH: Water and money
What are your go-to places to stop and get food while on the road?
GH: Love me a good Love’s travel center bag of almonds. Also Wendy’s baked potato!
What's been your favorite show so far?
GH: Our show in Lincoln, NE was a really big show for us. We’ve been waiting to tour for 3 years and haven’t played that many shows with this band but things started to fall into place by the time we got to Lincoln. We started actually having fun. Webster Hall in NYC also felt like a big full circle moment; I left NY feeling really defeated and not sure what my next move was/if I had another move in me. To come back with girlhouse meant a lot.
What are some memorable moments from tour?
GH: Laughing with new friends, seeing Niagara Falls at night, and feeling like myself again after not playing shows for so long.
What are some must-haves while on the road?
GH: Noise canceling headphones! And sunscreen!
What's your dream city or venue to play?
GH: I’d love to tour anywhere in Eastern Asia, not sure what venue though. In the USA, I’d love to play the Edgefield Lawn in Oregon. I grew up going there every summer to see The Decemberists and playing there has been a lifelong dream of mine.
What are you playing while on aux in the car?
GH: Murder podcasts
